Honorary degrees awarded [12 July]

Bristol University is awarding honorary degrees to Mr Alan Bond, space systems engineer and Mr William Lewis, former Editor of the The Daily Telegraph, at today’s [12 July] degree ceremonies in the Wills Memorial Building.Mr Alan Bond, space systems engineer and Managing Director, Reaction Engines Ltd, will be honoured with the degree of Doctor of Engineering at the 11.15 am ceremony. The orator for the ceremony is Dr Mark Lowenberg, Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering at the University.
Mr William Lewis, former Editor of The Daily Telegraph, and a Bristol graduate, will be honoured with the degree of Doctor of Laws at the 2.30 pm ceremony. The orator for the ceremony is Judith Squires, Dean of Social Sciences and Law, and Professor of Political Theory at the University.
An honorary degree is a major accolade, awarded in recognition of outstanding achievement and distinction in a field or activity consonant with the University’s mission.
